Are we close to a viable solution to the plastic pollution crisis?

Scientific discoveries have a knack of being made by accident and it appears this one is no different. Imagine a world where your plastic bottles keep being recycled over and over to a point where there is no longer a need to harvest new oil from the ground?

Imagine +LEGO collecting broken pieces from customers and breaking them back down into useable components to make new pieces.

Right now most plastics are repurposed into fabrics and other materials rather than being reprocessed into bottles or tubs but this could soon change. I dream of a day where the great plastic "patch" of the Pacific ocean is but a distant memory and wildlife can be once again safe from our polluting habits.
