It occurred to me that I am yet to share my #21stScavengerHunt images so I took this opportunity to create a new collection where I will add my attempts at portrait photography.
This picture here is +Stephanie Rebours-Smith kindly modelling in a flattering, but not particularly warm outfit in Blackness Castle in the middle of November. I had this setting in my mind to illustrate window light affecting a vampiric figure. I was originally going to use a different castle but unfortunately it was closed the weekend I’d set for the photo shoot.
I learnt a few things there, first that even when the model is your wife, it’s really not easy to convey a vision to your model. Thankfully with digital we have the luxury of multiple attempts. Second, while the noise on this picture helped for the look I was going for on this particular image, other images turned out pretty much unusable because of the amount of noise (I hope to fix that with a camera update soon). Third and last, I am very fond of specialised brushes for a quick and effective special effect.
The image was a awarded a Honourable Mention in the contest which I was very happy with.
