Boy and tengu assisting an old puppeteer – Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh

This piece is from Okimono in Japan and dates to the 19th century. A tengu is a mischievous trickster who preys on travellers. They are thought to be reincarnations of priests, atoning for past sins.

It is quite challenging to take shots of detailed pieces like this in museums where they keep the light deliberately low, luckily it turned out rather nice.
