There seems to be a variety of bands willing to pay tribute to Metallica, one of the most awesome Metal bands of all time, with instruments other than overdriven guitars, bass and drums, the result of which is something really quite cool.
The first of them is quite well know. Finnish band Apocalyptica have been covering Metallica songs with their 4 cellos for over a decade and their rendition gives something of an eerie athmospheric kind of music as the video below shows:
This next one has more of an eastern flavour to it. The cover is from a band called “Buddha lounge” and uses sitars and other more traditionally Indian instruments but it works ever so well, check it out:
This one was found courtesy of Music Radar. Two women playing Metallica on large concert harps calling themselves Harptallica. Now, listening to them, I can’t help thinking it could sound a lot better than it does but it’s a start 😉 See for yourself:
Finally a cool cover on the electric violin found at random but with a cool solo at the end:
And yes I realise they’re all playing “Fade to Black” but I thought it’d make more sense for comparative purposes to stick to the one song.
If you know of other weird instruments used to play Metallica (string ones preferably) please let me know 😀
